Merchandising attracts customers, builds brands, and advertises pricing and promotion.
Merchandising is considered a key tactic or sub-function of the overall marketing strategy, specifically related to the product and place (distribution) elements of the marketing mix. While marketing focuses on external demand generation and branding, merchandising deals with internal, in-store, or online presentation to drive actual sales.
A key tactic of your marketing strategy
Merchandising directly applies several elements of the traditional “4 Ps” of marketing (Product, Price, Place, Promotion) at the retail level:
Supports products & placement marketing principles
Merchandising involves selecting the right mix of products to meet customer needs and expectations. A core aspect is the physical or digital placement and display of products, such as shelf arrangement, eye-catching displays, and store layout, to encourage purchases.
Supports pricing & promotion marketing strategies
Pricing strategies and promotional tactics like coupons or discounts are often intertwined with merchandising decisions. Merchandising uses in-store promotions, visual displays, and packaging as a form of sales promotion to influence purchasing decisions at the point of sale.

E-Commerce Solutions for Merchandising
This Shopify platform webstore was for a client to facilitate getting employees to get their branded and job-related apparel and other products from a single source. Many of the products were treated with numerous improvements to product detail page features, tag and filter options, metafield functions, and enhancements. I managed the front-end and also some of the coding in Shopify’s Liquid programming language. I also managed a team of remote back-end programmers and their tasks. The webstore has changed considerably since my contributions but feel free to visit at store.holder.com
